Overview
I was tasked with developing a bold and vibrant brand identity for Asia Street, a fast-casual restaurant concept based in Auckland that celebrates the rich culture of Asian street food. Positioned as an accessible and exciting dining experience, Asia Street brings the flavors, energy, and vibrancy of bustling street markets into a modern setting, offering quality food at affordable prices. The challenge was to capture not just the cuisine, but the experience itself, the buzz of social connection, the playfulness of shared meals, and the cultural richness that street food represents. Guided by the tagline “Where East Meets West”, the brand identity needed to bridge authenticity and modernity, creating an experience that feels both globally relevant and locally grounded.

The Problem
They had a clear mission and vision, but no visual language to bring it to life. Asia Street was starting entirely from blank canvas. No existing brand, no identity system, nothing to build from or iterate on. They needed a complete visual system that could communicate affordable, vibrant, fast casual dining, and signal excitement and togetherness from the first glance. The brand needed to feel different from the polished, corporate restaurant identities flooding the market, and instead feel energetic, playful, and unmistakably theirs.
The Strategy
The core of the identity is a cartoon hand holding two chopsticks. It's simple, playful, and instantly communicates what Asia Street is about. There's a sense of casualness and human connection in that gesture: the idea of food made by hand, shared with others. I paired it with a bold, sans-serif wordmark that matches the energy of the mark itself. The colour palette is anchored in a fiery red that sits on the edge between daring and comfort. Red isn't just bold visually; it's the colour of street food energy, of light and vibrancy and appetite. Everything else in the system builds from there. The art direction leans into that same playfulness and energy. Shot on location at the beach to reinforce the casual dining experience, using flash photography to bring immediacy and brightness to every frame. There's a disposable film aesthetic overlaid on top, something custom-made for the brand, that keeps the whole system feeling vibrant and alive rather than precious or overly produced. Every photograph feels like it's captured in the moment, which is exactly how Asia Street wants to feel.
